Best of Breed XaaS and Cloud Computing

By nedwos Marketing

September 04, 2017

We prefer to promote the “Best of breed” approach to choosing technology and systems and we are working closely with a select number of software and services suppliers to offer a complete ICT function for your SME. Making available the best value and quality services that are usually denied to smaller companies because of cost or minimum licence counts.

IaaS, PaaS and SaaS are the new normal.

What do these terms mean though? Think of them as the building blocks of your computer centre if it were a house.

The foundations are IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). This is the real computing power, like servers, operating systems, networks and storage. Included are physical security and network security to protect the servers, including data stored on and access to the servers.

Next is the building itself, or PaaS (Platform as a Service). The development tools, management of data, analysis tools etc for the underlying data held at secure Data Centres (IaaS).

Finally, the SaaS (Software as a Service) layer is the people who live in the house. They are the important ones that make use of the applications and systems that are available to them. The people may not know how to build a house, but they know how it should work and what they want to do.

Is it right for my business?

Everyone from Amazon to Zapier uses cloud computing, which is the term used to describe computer systems that are not hosted on-premise, and are accessed and managed usually via an internet browser.

Now is a very exciting time in the ICT world, as more companies embrace the simplification that Cloud Computing offers, and the enhanced security and safety that is included.

You may prefer one of the three big players – Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). nedwos can work with your preferences, as we have designed our Managed IT Service (MITS) to be platform agnostic as much as possible.

Choosing the right direction means understanding how you do your business now, industry best practices and where you would like your business to be in the future.
